Jesus Christ, His passion and Anthy Himemiya
Anthy and Jesus have some similarities that I recognized. At least when it comes to Jesus on the cross and His passion. First! When you see the swords of hatered on Anthy they impail her hand. Similar to Jesus's wounds on the cross. Which first sparked these correlations. They are both on the palm and also possibly show how they both accepted their fate and how that simultaneously holds them up and binds them.
Anthy and Jesus both accept what they have to do and the main event for it happens once a year on Easter for Jesus and once a revolution, if you subscribe to the time loop/Akio did this many times. So it is a "main" event and important for both of their characters, showcasing suffering. This happens once in a time frame with scenes leading up to it. For Jesus it's Spy Wensday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. For Utena, all of the show. And also, Anthys suicide attempt is a leading/main scene. Trying to get Utena to flee, or perhaps plotted by Akito, strengthens Utenas resolve and leads to Anthys suffering. Similar to Judas betraying Jesus, leading to the crucifixion.
Similar to Jesus's story, Anthy even "betrays" Utena (not actually she's not consenting) through the show. Both have plot leading to it and a scene leading to suffering. They both were destined, well in anthys case not "destined" but seems desinted to suffer. They both have suffering that shows a greater meaning, Jesus suffering for sins and Anthy suffering due to trying to save her brother, impailed with hate and Jesus taking the guilt of every sin. One could argue Anthy is even suffering for Akio, so he doesn't bare the Swords and so he didn't get hurt in the flashback. They're both suffering for others and what they are suffering from represents something of humanity. Even more similar to Jesus suffering for us all. Anthys suffering represents the hate of humanity and the anger of misogyny, which many experience. And she represents women so her suffering could be to take on the suffering for all women. This suffering is given to Anthy, similar how some are told to give their suffering to Jesus.
After both of their suffering things get better, Jesus descends into hell and rose from the dead and ascended into heaven, seated at the right hand of God. Anthy, thanks to Utena partly, now knows that she doesn't have to suffer or do this and frees herself and goes to live a better life. Isolation in garden for Jesus is even similar to Anthys garden. Because they're both a garden and represent negative experiences like anthy being trapped and Jesus suffering mental agony about the crucifixion. For my next point I got inspired by "the sword of hate esque art" on the forum something eternal, posted by antediluvianlight for my next point. But the sacred heart of Jesus has swords on it, like Anthy getting impaled by swords.
Although there probably wasn't any intention or corrolation about Anthy and Jesus's suffering it's still intresting.
